  • salt to taste
  • water as needed
  • oil / ghee

Instructions

  • Mix it once. Boil water until it bubbles up, switch off then add it to rice flour.
  • Mix with a ladle, once it starts to come together, Set aside for few mins until it is warm enough to handle with hand. Now bring everything together to form a smooth dough without any cracks.
  • Make equal sized balls, first take one and flatten it.
  • Shape them as lamps and steam cook for 10-12 mins, depends on the size you make.
  • Now fill each lamp with ghee or oil, apply turmeric and kumkum and finally light them up.

Notes

  • Dough consistency – I make sure dough is soft and without cracks. If it is dry it may break while shaping.
  • Handling dough – you should be careful while mixing as water will be hot. After few minutes you can use hands to knead.
  • Shaping lamps – I shape gently using fingers to form lamp. Do not press too hard as it may crack.
  • Steaming time – I steam it until its cooked well. It depends on size so keep checking.
  • Try other shapes – This recipe you can also make small balls or other shapes for snacks.
