Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon ajwain / omam / carom seeds

Instructions

  • Measure a tablespoon of ajwain seeds, dry roast until nice aroma comes. Let it cool down completely.
  • Take a muslin cloth, add the roasted ajwain to it.
  • Bring the edges to the center and put  a knot. Your ajwain potli is ready. Just inhale every now and then which helps in easy breathing and gives a soothing effect.

Notes

  • Roasting – I always dry roast ajwain in pan on medium heat until aroma comes out strong. I don't roast too much or it will burn and smell becomes bad, just roast until golden brown.
  • Cooling – I let roasted ajwain cool complete before tying in cloth, if it is too hot it makes cloth uncomfortable to hold.
  • Cloth selection – I use muslin cloth because it is soft and does not irritate baby skin, any thin breathable cloth also works.
  • Potli size – I make small potli so that babies and kids can easily hold and play with it without dropping.
  • Storage – I keep potli in container after two days aroma fade and make fresh one. Don't keep same potli for too long as aroma become weak and it not work good anymore.
  • Safety – I always make sure knot is tight so that ajwain don't spill out, keep it away from baby mouth so that they don't put it in mouth. When baby is sleeping I keep potli near but not direct on face.
