Idli Sandwich

Idli Sandwich is the western inspiration of native food – very tasty & healthy. Idli Sandwich is made by making a veg masala and layering it in between roasted idlis. Idli Sandwich is a tasty wholesome treat for the family for breakfast / dinner.

Ingredients

  • 3 nos idlis
  • 1/4 cup onion chopped
  • 1 small potato boiled and mashed
  • 1 small carrot grated
  • 1/4 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • 1 teaspoon chopped coriander leaves
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon tomato sauce
  • 3 nos onion slices
  • water as needed
  • salt to taste

To temper:

Instructions

  • Heat oil in a kadai - add jeera let it splutter.
  • Then add ginger garlic paste, onion and saute for 2mins until onions turns transparent. Add carrot.
  • Saute for few mins then add mashed potato along with garam masala powder and salt.
  • Cook for 2mins then sprinkle little water. Cook until the masalas are nicely blended.
  • Finally garnish with coriander leaves and switch off.
  • Now take the leftover idlis. Slice into 2 in the middle. Butter them well.
  • Toast until golden. Spread tomato sauce on one slice of the idli (the bigger one as the base).
  • Add generous spoon of the stuffing. Place an onion slice on it.
  • Close with another slice, garnish with a piece of coriander leaf and serve Idli Sandwich!

Notes

  • I used leftover idlis. If you are using fresh idlis then refrigerate them for at least 30 mins before slicing.
  • You can use any vegetable stuffing of your choice.
