Moth Bean Dal is a tasty, healthy side dish made by simmering pressure cooked moth bean with spices & basic veggies. Moth Bean Dal is a simple & quick side for rice, chapathi & other flat breads.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sprouted moth beans I soaked 1/4 cup moth bean and sprouted
  • salt to taste
  • a pinch turmeric powder
  • 1/4 cup onion finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup tomato puree
  • coriander leaves to garnish
  • 1 cup water

Spice powders:

To temper:

  • 2 teaspoon oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon jeera

Instructions

  • To a pressure cooker add sprouted moth beans(rinsed well) along with salt and turmeric powder. Add 1 cup water.
  • Pressure cook for 2 whistles in medium flame, transfer and set aside.
  • To the same pressure cooker heat oil add jeera let it splutter.
  • Add onion, ginger garlic paste and saute tuntil onions turns transparent, then add tomato puree.Cook until raw smell leaves.
  • Now add the spice powders, saute for a minute then add cooked moth bean along with water.
  • Mix well, mash it slightly and allow for a boil until well blended. Finally garnish with coriander leaves and switch off. Enjoy Moth Bean Dal!

Notes

  • I made it a simple dal, if you want more flavour you can add kasoori methi, amchur powder etc.
  • You can just soaked moth bean too without sprouting too.
