Moth bean dal recipe a simple quick dal for rice/chapathi

  • 1/2 cup sprouted moth beans I soaked 1/4 cup moth bean and sprouted
  • salt to taste
  • a pinch turmeric powder
  • 1/4 cup onion finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup tomato puree
  • coriander leaves to garnish
  • 1 cup water

Spice powders:

To temper:

  • 2 tsp oil
  • 1/2 tsp jeera


  • To a pressure cooker add sproued moth beans(rinsed well) along with salt and turmeric powder.Add 1 cup water.
  • Pressure cook for 2 whistles in medium flame,transfer and set aside.To the same pressure cooker heat oil add jeera let it splutter.
  • Add onion, ginger garlic paste and saute tuntil onions turns transparent, then add tomato puree.Cook until raw smell leaves.
  • Now add the spice powders,saute for a minute then add cooked moth bean along with water.
  • Mix well, mash it slightly and allow for a boil until well blended.Finally garnish with coriander leaves and switch off.


  • I made it a simple dal, if you want more flavour you can add kasoori methi, amchur powder etc.
  • You can just soaked moth bean too without sprouting too.
