Millet Sweet Porridge

Millet Sweet Porridge is a healthy, filling breakfast made by simmering millets with milk & sugar & topped with nuts. Millet Sweet Porridge should be savored once in fortnight as it is nutritious and makes us feel light. Millet Sweet Porridge is a dietary meal relished wholesome or with onions / pickles & spicy chutney.

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup kodo millet (varagu)
  • 1/4+ 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 tablespoon sugar adjust as per taste
  • a pinch salt
  • a tiny pinch cardamom powder (optional)
  • chopped nuts and dry fruits

Instructions

  • Soak the millet in water for 15 mins, rinse well and drain water. Add it a sauce pan.
  • Add water , 1/4 cup milk and a pinch of salt.
  • Cook until soft and mushy. Add remaining 1/2 cup milk to it.
  • Let it simmer for 5 mins. Then add sugar.
  • Add cardamom powder and mix well.
  • Once its well combined slightly mash using a masher. Mix well and switch off.
  • Look at the consistency, it thickens with time so serve immediately. Add chopped nuts and dry fruits as garnish and serve.
  • Serve Millet Sweet Porridge warm!

Notes

  • In case you like to have it chilled then add little milk to loosen up then serve.
  • I had no fruits in hand so used dry fruits and nuts, you can add fresh fruits too.
  • I used cherries, pista and almonds chopped as topping.
