Karthigai Kozhukattai

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup homemade rice flour or readymade idiyappam flour
  • salt to taste
  • water as needed
  • oil / ghee

Instructions

  • First prepare the outer dough.Measure and take rice flour in a mixing bowl,add salt.
  • Mix it once. Boil water until it bubbles up, switch off then add it to rice flour.
  • Mix with a ladle, once it starts to come together, Set aside for few mins until it is warm enough to handle with hand. Now bring everything together to form a smooth dough without any cracks.
  • Make equal sized balls, first take one and flatten it.
  • Shape them as lamps and steam cook for 10-12 mins, depends on the size you make.
  • Now fill each lamp with ghee or oil, apply turmeric and kumkum and finally light them up.

Notes

  • The dough should be soft free from cracks otherwise while shaping it will tend to break.
  • Be careful while handing the dough as it might be very hot. Use ladle after few mins when it becomes warm you can mix with hands.
  • I make this kozhukattai shaped as small balls regularly for school snack box. You can make this as an evening snack too.
  • Here I have given steps to shape them as lamp but you can make any fun shapes while serving for snacks time.
