Jaljeera | Jaljira

Jaljeera is a tangy, spiced beverage made by grinding spices & tamarind and straining it to a drink & then blend with lemon extract, spice powders & sugar. Jaljeera is a refreshing drink made during Holi and tastes similar to the panipuri pani. Jaljira Recipe is served chilled as a replacement to juice & tea.

Ingredients

  • 3 and 1/2 cups water
  • 1/8 cup mint leaves tightly packed
  • 1/8 cup coriander leaves tightly packed
  • a small piece ginger
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 tablespoon tamarind
  • boondi just for garnish
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon roasted jeera powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt / black salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon amchur powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon chat masala powder

Instructions

  • Get all your ingredients ready. Soak tamarind in little water.
  • Now add the ingredients except the spice powders and lemon to a mixer.
  • Sprinkle little water and Grind it to a paste.
  • Chill water for at least an hour.
  • Now place a strainer over the bowl containing water and strain it.
  • Keep straining till you see a thick pulp without any water content.
  • Now add the spice powders along with sugar and add lemon juice. Mix well.
  • Garnish Jaljira with boondi and Serve chilled!

Notes

  • This keeps well at least for a week if refrigerated.
  • You can add little more sugar if you feel its very tangy.
