Black Gram Ladoo | Urad Dal Laddu

Black Gram Ladoo is a healthy, mild sweet made by shaping a dough blend of powdered & roasted black gram, jaggery and ghee into balls. Black Gram Ladoo is a delight for people on diet & diabetics to celebrate Diwali & special occasions in a healthy way. Black Gram Ladoo is also commonly made for girls to improve bone strength and regularizing menstruation.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup black urad dal with skin
  • 1 cup jaggery use clean jaggery
  • 1/3 cup ghee

Instructions

  • Dry roast urad dal until crisp, we can't see the color change but you can smell the aroma, so switch off accordingly and cool down completely. Then add to mixie jar.
  • Grind to a fine powder. Add jaggery and give a quick blend. Transfer the mixture to a mixing bowl. The mixture will be slightly coarse.
  • Warm up ghee and add it. Mix well with a spoon.
  • Pinch a small lemon sized portion and shape them as ladoos. Repeat to finish the mixture.
  • Store in a clean dry container. Keeps well at least for a 5 days in room temperature itself. Enjoy Black Gram Ladoo!

Notes

  • While roasting take care not to burn it
  • This is the traditional method so I haven't used any flavoring here, but if you prefer you can add cardamom powder.
  • The color of the ladoo depends on the color of the jaggery used.
