Makhana Kheer

Makhana Kheer is a rich and creamy kheer made for Navratri. Makhana Kheer is made with lotus seeds, milk and sugar as main ingredients. How to make Makhana Kheer is explianed here with step by step pictures and video.

Ingredients

  • 1 and 1/2 cups phool makhana
  • 2 cups milk
  • 3 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ghee
  • few strands saffron
  • 1 tablespoon pistachios

Instructions

  • Measure makhana.Take it in a pan and roast it in ghee until slightly golden.It will be crisp when tasted,thats the right stage switch off.
  • Take 1/2 cup from it and grind it to a coarse mixture,Set aside.Take milk in pan.
  • Boil till it reduces a little.Then add sugar and saffron.
  • Simmer for 5mins.Then add makhana powdered mixture.
  • It will start to thicken once its added keep stirring till it reaches a creamy consistency.Now add remaining 1 cup of roasted makhana,
  • Give a quick stir and switch off.Add chopped pistachios and serve.
  • Serve Makhana Kheer chilled / warm.

Notes

  • Give just 10 mins standing for the makhana to soak up well.
  • You can add other chopped nuts like badam,cashews too.
  • You can add a pinch of cardamom powder if you like the flavour.
  • You can add cane sugar or regular white sugar itself.Adjust according to sweetness.
