Sooji porridge recipe for babies

Sooji porridge recipe for babies-a very mild instant and easily digestible porridge that you can feed for babies after 6 months. This rava porridge tastes more or less like the sooji kheer minus ghee fried nuts and cardamom flavour.

Please remember mothers feed is the best and its always good to start with other food only after the baby finishes 6 months.Always consult your paediatrician before introducing any new food.

  • 1/8 cup fine sooji (2 tbsp)
  • 1 tsp melted ghee
  • 1/2 cups water
  • 1 tbsp jaggery syrup
  • 2 to 3 tbsp milk (boiled and warm)

* The ratio is for 1 cup rava it is 4 cups water.

    Instructions

    • In a pan add ghee then add sooji and roast it in low flame.
    • Roast until its fragrant but do not let it change the color. Remove roasted sooji from flame and set aside. Now add 1/2 cup water in the same pan and let it boil.
    • When it starts bubbling up,simmer the flame and add roasted sooji.Keep stirring and let it cook in low flame.
    • When it gets thick and all the water is absorbed switch off and close with lid. Do not disturb for 10 mins. After 10 mins when you open and see it will be thickish.
    • Now add jaggery syrup and milk.
    • Mix well to get the porridge consistency.

    Notes

    • You can replace jaggery syrup with any sweetner of your choice. You can use panangkarkandu or karupatti or cane sugar too.
    • If you are adding formula milk add it after the coked rava mixture cools down a bit.
    • For babies above 1 year old you can add cow’s milk, for babies below 1 year cow’s milk is not advisable either mothers milk or formula milk can be used.
    • Sooji is easily digestable and is less allergic but still follow the 3rd rule before starting any new food or consult your paediatrician.
    • Plus or minus milk according to the consistency you want.
    • I tried this porridge for gugu only after a year so used cows milk itself.
