Chura Matar is a healthy and tasty snack popular in North India.It is a very popular breakfast or snack in Uttar Pradesh. Again this Chura Matar Recipe is from my north indian friend who gave me this recipe long back but only now I got reminded of this when I saw fresh green peas in the fridge.
This chura matar also called as matar poha is a no onion no garlic recipe.It is different from the usual aloo poha or the aval upma we usually make. Do try this and enjoy!

Chura Matar | Matar Poha
Ingredients
- 1 cup poha
- 1/4 cup boiled peas I pressure cooked for 2 whistles
- 1/2 tsp sugar
- 1/8 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/8 tsp pepper powder
- 1/4 tsp garam masala powder
- 1/2 tsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp coriander leaves chopped finely
- salt to taste
To temper:
- 1 and 1/2 tbsp oil
- 3/4 tsp jeera
- 1 no green chilli finely chopped
- 3/4 tsp ginger grated
- a pinch hing
Instructions
- To a mixing bowl add poha soak it in water till immersing level. Soak for 5 mins, I used thin poha so 5 mins was enough. If you use thick poha you may need to soak for 7-10 mins at least.
- Rinse the poha well, drain water and set aside.
- Heat oil in a pan - add jeera let it splutter then add chopped green chilies and grated ginger.
- Give a quick saute then add boiled peas along with turmeric powder, salt, sugar, pepper powder and garam masala powder. Give a saute. Add little water and let it boil.
- Cook covered for 3 mins until water is absorbed. It should be slightly moist, add poha.
- Mix well until well combined then add lemon juice and coriander leaves. Toss well. Switch off.
- Serve Chura Matar hot!

- I added very little pepper powder but you can add 1/4 tsp if you need more spicy version.
