Bloody Mary Cashews – A simple party snack or appetizer with the bloody mary flavour.Bloody Mary Cashews Recipe

Bloody Mary Cashews is a quick and easy starter or appetizer that I tried from Nadiya’s cookbook.

A Bloody Mary is a cocktail containing vodka, tomato juice, and other spices and flavorings. This cocktail was originally referred to as a “Bucket of Blood due to its blood red colour. Bloody Mary drink is a combination of sweet and savoury with a hint of chilli.

So when I saw this in the book named ‘Nadiyas British Food Adventure‘ I wanted to give it a try. But the main problem was to source few ingredients which I didn’t have in hand. I usually think a lot to buy ingredients just for one recipe sake but then for the love for Nadiya made me go that extra mile. As its easily sourced nowadays I bought the ingredients from Amazon and tried it. I should say it was just too good to resist that even mittu who doesn’t touch cashews loved it, Infact most of it was emptied by mittu and gugu.

These days even if I don’t try recipes I flip through the book just to read and see the pictures. this book has made me a noncook book addict to one.

    Ingredients

    • 300 grams cashews
    • 2 tsp parika
    • lemon zest from 2 small lemons
    • 2 tsp celery salt
    • 1 no egg white

    Instructions

    • Preheat oven at 200 deg C for 10 mins. To begin with first seperate egg whites and add it to a bowl.
    • Only the egg whites please.
    • Whisk well.
    • Whisk until frothy like shown below.
    • It should be foamy like this.
    • Add whole cashews to it.
    • Mix it up well.
    • Transfer to a baking tray with parchment paper on it.
    • Scrape and make lemon zest ready.I don't have a zester so I used my mini grater.
    • To a small bowl add paprika, lemon zest and celery salt.
    • Mix it well.
    • Now sprinkle the spice mixture over the cashews.Turn over and sprinkle.
    • Mix the nuts so that they are evenly coated.
    • Bake in preheated oven at 200 deg C for 10-12 mins. Make sure to keep an eye as it can get burnt easily. It is ready when the coated spice mixture is dry to touch.
    • Cool down and then serve Bloody Mary Cashews!

    Notes

    • Each oven setting is different so keep an eye after 8 mins itself.
    • Adjust spice level according to your preferece. I followed it as such and my kids didn't complain too so it wasn't that spicy.
    • I wouldn't recommend any variation to the ingredients or recipe as I stringly feel the taste will totally collapse if the recipe is altered even a bit.
    • But still if you want to try replace parika with red chilli powder and celery salt with regular or black salt.
