Aloft Coimbatore – Dot.Yum Restaurant Review

March 30, 2014 by Sharmilee J 5 Comments

After the touring the restaurant premises, we started our lunch around 2PM  at Dot.yum. Dot.Yum is Aloft’s All day dining restaurant. The ambiance was great with the buffet neatly arranged and organised. The lunch buffet menu was a nice wide spread with around 35 items.I actually wanted to taste everything atleast for reviewing sake but unfortunately coudnt do that but made sure that I tasted all the main course dishes.

With what I have experienced now that’s a self note to myself : If you are planning for a restaurant review which has a buffet first shoot the pictures then dine else do it reversal don’t confuse both…I was running like a headless chicken here and there, confused whether to click or to taste first….:)

Thank you Aloft for the wonderful opportunity!

VegetableWontonSoup

This was the buffet menu :

Choice of Soup:
Chicken Tortilla Soup (or)
Vegetable Wonton Soup
I didn’t taste the soup as soups and salads are not on my kind so started my lunch directly.Hubby tasted vegetable wonton soup.

What I liked the most was the balance of dishes for both veg and nonveg menu.

As we always say one grain of rice is just enough to judge the whole pot – I first wanted to taste all the main popular dishes like dal makhani, shahi paneer , kashmiri pulao and biryani which is always my keyfactor to judge a restaurant. Dal Makhani(see it in the plate in the tiled pic) was just perfect… the consistency, the color and the taste…full marks to it.Ambur Mutton Biryani was mild spicy and not oily which is very rare in restaurants, with the mutton pieces cooked to tender soft, I would easily tell it was one the best biryanis I’ve ever had! Shahi Paneer was good too…the only thing I felt was the cardamom flavour was just a little overpowering in shahi paneer atleast for my taste buds.

The only thing that disappointed me was the Nan they served…..It was hard for even a great Indian Bread lover like me that I couldnt finish it fully….could have been better.
Farfalle Creamy Pesto was at its best, creamy and yummy !

There was a choice of strawberry milkshake, masala buttermilk and pineapple juice. I tasted the milkshake and thoroughly enjoyed it 🙂

Grilled Fish was one of my favs in the whole buffet lunch menu, the fish was so soft, flavourful with no bones at all that even hubby who is not fond of fish said he just loved it and helped himself for second serving so did I 🙂

Noodles was great especially with the baby corn mushroom soya garlic sauce as sidedish, it took noodles to the next level 🙂

I was skeptical first whether to taste orange chicken or not….with orange sauce I thought it would taste bitter….But finally gave a try and to my surprise it was a complete winner….The orange flavour was just apt with the soft chicken pieces blended well with the gravy with not even a single trace of bitterness……yumoo!

The taste of Urulai Podi Varuval came close to my chettinad potato podi varuval 🙂

Trust me or not I didn’t taste any of them in the dessert plate below…:( I took the dessert plate came to my table and clicked it but unfortunately had to move on to click the mocktails that I missed tasting the desserts. But with what hubby said he loved the valencia gateaux and the blueberry pancotta.
I loved the way they had arranged the individual servings of the deserts instead of placing them as whole portions.

The color and texture of the jamun looked just perfect!

GulabJamun
The panacotta looked so cute and panacotta consistency was perfect that I wished I could have tasted it.
