  • Water - 3/4 cup

2.Then add water and stir continuously till sugar dissolves and it will start bubbling , allow it to boil till a single string consistency is reached(very thin string is enough). Switch off and cool down completely.
Lemonade Recipe - Step23.Then add the lemon juice to the sugar syrup and give a quick stir. Filter once and store in a clean container. Keep refrigerated.
Lemonade Recipe - Step3
Serving Suggestion:
  • Take 1/4 cup of sugar lemonn syrup and add 3/4 cup water to it - Adjust according to your liking.
  • Serve with icecubes and fresh lemon wedges.

Lemonade Recipe
My Notes:
  • Dont add lemon juice when the sugar syrup is hot, cool completely and then add.You can even lachi powder or ginger juice to the syrup to enhance the flavour.

Thatta Payir Kuzhambu Recipe

Thattapayir kuzhambu is one of my favs...I was not sure of the english name until I googled and found in wikipedia that it was cowpea beans :)

It rained like cats and dogs yesterday which was totally unexpected. With the breezy wind along with the heavy rain , small branches of trees falling here and there - it was totally creepy yesterday when we were on the way to attend a wedding reception. After about 2.5 hrs we finally reached the reception which actually takes hardly 30mins from our place.

It was fun time meeting the relatives yesterday and I manged few clicks there too. Followed by that, have an engagement to attend today evening - rain god do you hear me? ;)
Thatta payir Kuzhambu Recipe

Thatta payir Kuzhambu Recipe - Ingredients
  • Thattapayir(cowpea) - 1 cup
  • Tamarind water - 1/4 cup
  • Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 2 tsp
  • Coriander leaves - for garnish
  • Oil - 2 tsp
  • Salt - for taste
To temper:
  • Big Onion - 1 (or) Small Onion - 6
  • Garlic - 5
  • Curry leaves
  • Vadagam (the one used for tempering) / Urad Dhal - 1/2 tsp
  • Oil - 1 tsp
To grind to a paste:
  • Coconut - 1/4 cup
  • Tomato - 1
  • Big onion - 1/2
  • Fennel Seeds - 1/2 tsp

Thatta payir Kuzhambu Recipe
1. Heat oil in a kadai and saute onion and tomato until tomato turns mushy and raw smell leaves. Then add it along with other ingredients listed under 'to grind' and grind it to a fine paste.Adding cooked bean is just to thicken the curry.
Thatta payir Kuzhambu Recipe - Step1
2.Dry roast thatta payir till slightly browned and nice aroma comes.Rinse it twice atleast then Pressure cook with enough water and salt for 5 to 6 whistles in medium flame. Keep aside.Heat little oil in a kadai - add the items listed under 'to temper' and saute till slightly browned.
Thatta payir Kuzhambu Recipe - Step2
3.Add the tempered items in step2 to the pressure cooked thatta payir. Give a quick stir, add 3/4 cup water and add the coconut paste. Add chilli, coriander powder and salt if required.
Thatta payir Kuzhambu Recipe - Step3
4.Allow it to boil for sometime. Then add tamarind pulp, little more water if its too thick.
Thatta payir Kuzhambu Recipe - Step4
5.Allow it to boil again till oil separates. Then add coriander leaves and switch it off.
Thatta payir Kuzhambu Recipe - Step5
Serve hot with steamed rice or dosas. Leave it a resting time of 1 hour for the curry to blend well.

However trying out new recipes is always interesting, I feel content when I post traditional ammas recipes :)

Thatta payir Kuzhambu Recipe
My Notes:
  • You can skip grinding tomatoes and add it to the tempering items.
  • While tempering small onions can also be used which is more flavourful
  • Any other veggies like brinjal can also be added for this curry.
  • The kuzhambu thickens with time so switch off accordingly.

Corn Peas Pulao Recipe

With the IPL season on and seeing us talk about chennai super kings the little one wants to know why there is no kovai super kings...haha Though I dont watch it regularly get to hear that CSK rocks and am sure will rock on!

Corn Peas Pulao Recipe

Coming to todays recipe - Corn Peas Pulao : I tried this few months back and by then I've made it twice as we all liked it very much. The crunch and sweetness in the corn with the flavourful spicy masala makes it a tasty one pot meal. Its colorful to see and tasty to eat what more do you need?! :)

Corn Peas Pulao Recipe

Corn Peas Pulao Recipe - Ingredients
  • Basmati Rice - 1 cup
  • Big Onion - 1 chopped lengthwise
  • Ginger garlic paste - 3/4 tsp (optional)
  • Corn kernels - 1/4 cup
  • Peas - 1/4 cup
  • Ghee - 1/2 tbsp
  • Oil - 1/2 tbsp
  • Water - 1 and 1/2 cups
  • Salt - to taste
To temper:
  • Cinnamon - 1/2 inch piece
  • Cloves -2
  • Cardamom - 1
To grind to a paste:
  • Coriander leaves - 1/2 cup tightly packed
  • Garlic - 4
  • Ginger - 1/4 inch piece
  • Cashewnut - 6
  • Tomato - 1 big sized
  • Green chillies - 2
  • Garam Masala powder - 1 tsp
  • Red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp

Corn Peas Pulao Recipe
1.First grind the ingredients listed under 'to grind' with little water to a fine paste. Set aside. In a pressure cooker heat oil+ghee add the items under 'to temper' with ginger garlic paste.
Corn Peas Pulao Recipe - Step1

2.Add onion and saute till slightly browned. Then add the masala paste and saute till raw smell leaves and it turns color as shown below.Soak basmati rice in water for 30mins set aside.
Corn Peas Pulao Recipe - Step23.Then add corn, peas saute till the masala is well blended with the veggies.Add required salt, I used rock salt. Drain water from rice and add it.
Corn Peas Pulao Recipe - Step3
4.Give a stir and add water. Close and pressure cook for 3 whistles in medium flame. Once pressure releases fluff the rice with fork, take care not to break the rice.
Corn Peas Pulao Recipe - Step4

Serve hot with curd or onion raita. This is a spicy pulao so curd is the best combo which I love the most.

Corn Peas Pulao Recipe
My Notes:
  • You can skip peas and even make it plain corn pulao
  • As we are adding ginger and garlic in the masala paste itself, adding ginger garlic paste is optional while tempering.
  • I always use rice : water ratio as 1: 1.5 cups - This suits well as the rice is presoaked and gives a grain seperated rice.
